(AGI) Los Angeles, Feb 24 - Film director Mario Martone will receive a career award on Thursday at the Italian Institute of Culture in Los Angeles in the context of the eleventh "Los Angeles Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest". The festival is held under the auspices of the Italian Consulate and is organised by the Capri in the World Institute together with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE). It will take place at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood from Feb. 21 to 27, 2016. The Institute's director, Valeria Rumori will give the famous Italian film director a sculpture entitled "The Round", specially created by Tuscan artist Mauri Staccioli. The work was commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, included in the Gori Collection - Fattoria di Celle (Celle Farm) and also displayed on the Institute's patio. Mario Martone has directed 15 films since 1985. The first of his works to be screened "Morte di un matematico napoletano" ("Death of a Neapolitan Mathematician") won the Special Jury Prize at the 49th Venice Film Festival in 1992. He took part in the 1995 Cannes film Festival with "L'amore molesto" ("Nasty Love"). "Noi credevamo" ("We Believed") in 2010, won several awards in Italy, and was in the running for the Golden Lion at the 67th Venice film Festival. His latest work "Il giovane favoloso" ("Leopardi") was presented in competition at the 71st Venice Film Festival in 2014. Martone debuted in the theatre as a stage manager, working with the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. (AGI) .
