(AGI) Hanoi, Mar 7 - The National Vietnamese Symphonic Orchestra has opened with a programme featuring Italian operas by Gioacchino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, Gaetano Donizzetti and Giacomo Puccini, with the extraordinary participation of Angela Nisi, soprano. The young artist was greatly appreciated by the packed Hanoi Opera House audience. In some pieces, Nisi sang with a Vietnamese baritone and tenor - a pairing which had gone well in three earlier events. The concert followed a reception and presentation hosted by the Italian Ambassador in Vietnam, Cecilia Piccioni, anticipating the Embassy's cultural programme with highlights like celebrations for the birth of the Italian Republic on June 2nd and the 17th Settimana della Lingua (Italian Language Week). Nisi has been on tour with Maestro Paolo Petrocelli of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, who discussed with the Ministry of Culture and with the Vietnam National Opera & Ballet further collaborations with Italian opera institutions. The talks focused especially on Italian performers in concerts held in Vietnam, and on the training of staff employed in theatres. The Italian Department of the University of Hanoi also organised a lecture delivered by Maestro Petrocelli on the role of music as a means to convey values and as a tool for diplomacy, attended by over 100 students.
