(VELINO) Roma, 1 Feb - Turin Polytechnic University and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) have reached a "bi-nationally supervised" agreement to cooperate in the training of young graduate students. The agreement was delivered on Sunday to the Consul General of Italy in Melbourne, Marco Maria Cerbo, who received Dean of the RMIT Research School, Denise Cuthbert, along with a delegation of 10 Italian students who are participating in various inter-university exchange programmes, accompanied by three teachers. The ceremony for the handover of the agreement marks an important juncture in the growth of bilateral relations with Australia, a country that excels in the internationalisation of its academic system. For Italian universities it represents an ideal counterpart in the areas of research and education. Addressing the students, the Consul General recalled the solidity of the relations between the State of Victoria, of which Melbourne is the capital, and Italy. Indeed, there are more than 400,000 people of Italian origin in Victoria, who have made an enormous contribution to the State's social, economic and political development. "The partnership between universities is one of the key building blocks of mutual understanding between the two nations always close in [terms of] ideals," said the Consul General. "At the same time it helps many young people to better understand a new reality, building a body of knowledge, relationships and experiences that will last for many years to come." The agreement with the Polytechnic is only the first step for RMIT towards more intense cooperation with its Italian counterparts. vel
