Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly received a state visit by Italian Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda. The two ministers' meeting discussed the Indonesian copyright regulations and their implementation. In the future, if the cooperation in terms of intellectual property is presented, it can reduce the misuse of products especially those from Italy. In addition, they also discussed about geographical indication and handling intellectual property dispute resolution.
The potential and experience of Italy in the field of geographical indication (GI) - according to a press release - has been known for a long time. Italian GI products listed in Indonesia include cheese, Parmigiano reggiano, and Grana padano. GI in Italy is growing not only within the community, but also able to support other sectors, one of which is tourism. The problems of Italian products marketed in Indonesia are not only in the form of piracy or counterfeiting, but the existence of an indication of smuggling of goods. Given the lack of bilateral cooperation, the current synergy is underway with the EU. Regional cooperation through ECAP projects in Asean and in the future will be done through IP Key and ARISE + (PLUS) projects. Bilateral cooperation has been done through the Trade Cooperation Facility (TCF) and Trade Support Facility (TSF) projects.
