(AGI) Turin, Apr 28 - Fiat Chrysler Automobile's (FCA)President John Elkann and CEO Sergio Marchionne launched thecompany's new industrial plant in Goiana, Brazil on Tuesday.Located in the state of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, thisis FCA's largest and most innovative plant in the world. Ittook almost 30 months to be completed for a total investment of7 billion Brazilian real (over 2.2 billion euro). The Jeepassembly plant accounted for 3 billion real, while another 2billion was spent on the supplier park and the rest for productdevelopment and other investments. The plant represents thelargest automotive investment made in the past 10 years inBrazil, and one of the largest private investments made in thelast decade. The new plant is equipped with 700 robots (650 inthe welding dept., 40 in the painting dept. and 10 in theassembly dept.) and covers a surface area of 260,000 squaremetres, with a production output capacity of 250,000 vehiclesper year. The plant manufactures the Jeep Renegade for LatinAmerican markets, but also has the capability of producingthree different types of cars. The supplier park, locatedinside the industrial facility and connected to the productionplant, extends over a surface area of 270,000 square metres andhouses 16 companies that produce 17 component product lines in12 different factories. By the end of the year, the industrialfacility is expected to employ more than 9,000 people: 3,300 inthe Jeep plant, 4,900 by suppliers and about 850 in serviceactivities. The company stated in a press release that theconstruction of "the Pernambuco facility is strategic to theJeep brand's international development and further strengthensFCA's presence in Brazil.
