(AGI) Rome, July 23 - Another Italian astronaut will join theInternational Space Station (ISS) in May 2017, the ItalianSpace Agency (ASI) and European Space Agency (ESA) announced onThursday. Details of the next astronaut's flight to the ISSwill be provided during a press conference at 10:30 am on July30 at the ASI headquarters. The new Italian astronaut will stayon board the ISS for approximately six months as part of theESA team that will carry out the ISS mission 52/53. Theastronaut was selected in collaboration with NASA as part ofthe memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between NASA andASI in 1997, under which Italy has provided Multi-PurposeLogistics Modules for space shuttle missions in exchange forflight and experimentation opportunities on the ISS. ASIPresident Roberto Battiston and the Head of the EuropeanAstronaut Centre (ESA), Frank De Winne, will speak at the pressconference. (AGI).
