(AGI) Rome, Jan 7 - Italy mourned the death of songwriter PinoDaniele on Wednesday. The funeral of the famous musician washeld in Rome's Santuario del Divino Amore and attended bypeople from all over Italy, his family and closest friends,including stars of the world of music and showbusiness. No TVcameras or photos were allowed in the church at the request ofthe family. A homily by Father Renzo, the Franciscan priest whowas a long-time friend, was broadcast through loudspeakers.Judicial authorities have opened an investigation into possibleculpable homicide in the last hours before the musician'sdeath. Rome's Deputy Prosecutor, Pierfilippo Laviani, andPublic Prosecutor Marcello Monteleone have ordered apost-mortem, which was to take place on Wednesday. They want toknow if it is true that the Neapolitan artist demanded to betaken to Rome's Sant'Eugenio Hospital, where he arrived at10:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, after he was already dead. Hebecame ill at his home in Magliano, in the south of Tuscany.His girlfriend, Amanda Bonini, had called for an ambulance fromGrosseto, the closest city, but in the meantime the musicianhad decided he wanted to be taken to Rome to be seen by hispersonal doctors, who had been treating him for years.Carabinieri from Rome's EUR district interrogated his family,his girlfriend and several friends on Tuesday afternoon, at therequest of the Prosecutor's Offices of Grosseto and Rome. Theyalso ordered the seizure of his medical record from theSant'Eugenio hospital. In his homily, Father Renzo addressed anappeal to his family: "Make sure to stay united; this is thebest gift you can offer Pino, because there are already strangerumours going around ... If you don't stay united, it will meanthat Pino has failed both as a father and as a man." He alsocriticised worldliness and selfishness. "This is the reality oflife. See? We all have to go ... so ponder over the real senseof life," he said pointing to the coffin. He went on to attackthe world of showbusiness and gossip, saying that nobody talkswithin the family any more under the spell of television. Healso spoke out against corrupt politicians: "Look at thebandits who govern us; they have all betrayed us, thesepolitical puppets have left us penniless in a competition ofwho would be the best predator ..."
