(AGI) Pomezia (Rome), Feb 4 - Enel and Eni have teamed up inthe sector of electric mobility. A pilot project for the firstFast Recharge Plus station in Italy was launched in Pomezia, south of Rome, on Wednesday. The Enel recharge station wasopened at an Eni service station near Rome. The station whereelectric cars can be charged quickly was opened by MaurizioLupi, Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation; SalvatoreSardo, Eni's Chief Downstream & Industrial Operations Officer;Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel; Fabio Refrigeri, Councillor forInfrastructure and the Environment for the Lazio Region ofLazio; and by Fabio Fucci, Mayor of Pomezia. The pilot projectis the result of an agreement signed by Enel and Eni in March2013. In the document, the two leading companies in the Italianenergy sector agreed to launch an experimental programmeregarding electric mobility through the installation of newEnel Fast Recharge Plus stations at Eni service stations alongroads outside urban areas and on motorways, allowing motoriststo use their electric vehicles outside the city. Enel's newproduct makes it possible to recharge three cars simultaneouslyusing both AC and DC power at 50, 22 or 43 kW. That makes theequipment compatible with all electric cars on the market. Carscan be charged in less than half an hour, the time to have acoffee break or a snack at an Eni station. The new serviceeffectively doubles a vehicle's travel range and could eventriple or quadruple it with more quick stops. The decision toplace the first station on the road between Pomezia and Romewas taken because of the presence of an important industrialhub and because of the large number of commuters passing thestation daily. The road is also frequently used by touriststravelling between the Italian capital and the coast. The newinfrastructure is clearly marked by an innovative sign andclear information about its use is provided. After a testphase, in which customer satisfaction will be closelymonitored, Enel and Eni plan to proceed with more installationsthroughout Italy. Eni has always been committed to innovationand sustainability, said Salvatore Sardo during thepresentation of the pilot project. "We as Eni have always hadthe vision to innovate. We are market leader in Italy with4,500 service stations and so we were the obvious choice toparticipate in this initiative, and we are happy to host it.Eni has always believed in sustainable mobility and has beeninvesting in this sector for many years: we were the first inItaly to invest in green refineries. The first was built inMarghera and another one in Gela followed soon after. We arealso investing in the European 'blue corridor' project, creating a corridor in Italy for natural gas vehicles. We havethe first station in Piacenza and others will follow. We havealways been committed to innovation, and we have an investmentprogramme that foresees the implementation of recharge stationsfor electric cars in more service stations in the coming monthsand years (40 have been planned). What you see here is thetransformation of our Eni stations from simple petrol stationsto mobility assistance points." . .
