(AGI) Rome, Jan. 5 - Neapolitan songwriter and singer PinoDaniele died on Sunday night, killed by a massive heart attack.He would have turned 60 in March. He felt ill at his villa inTuscany and was transported to Rome in a private car, dying onarrival at Rome's Sant'Eugenio Hospital. Daniele leaves a wifeand five children. Pino Daniele was born in Naples on March 19,1955. A sophisticated artist and excellent guitar player,Daniele provided the musical sound-track to the best years oftoday's 40- and 50-year-olds, acquainting them with the beautyof Naples and of blues and jazz mixed with Neapolitan popularmusic, and composing the score for many films, including thosefeaturing his great friend Massimo Troisi. He also wrote songsmade successful by other great Italian artists. He was on atour called "Nero a meta", the title of one of his bestreleases, and had performed in Milan on Dec. 22. He was laterSpecial Guest on Rai1's New Year's show "L'anno che verra". Hislast Facebook post dates back to three days ago, probably rightafter his TV appearance: "back home, I'm on my way home," hewrote under a black and white picture of an empty snow-cappedmotorway. Italian President of the Republic, GiorgioNapolitano, sent his condolences to the singer's family in amessage which read: "I learnt, to my sorrowful surprise, of thedeath of Pino Daniele, a songwriter and singer who made anoriginal contribution to the musical tradition of his city. Iexpress my deepest-felt condolences to his children and to allthe people who loved him". Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzialso published a note: "I still have his music in my ears sinceNew Year's Eve. An incredible voice, not only of Naples and ofthe South, but of all of Italy; a priceless guitar player witha rare sensitivity which, with passion and melancholy, willcontinue to narrate Italy all over the world". Pino Daniele'sfuneral will be celebrated at midday on Wednesday, Jan. 7, atRome's Santuario della Madonna del Divino Amore. It will beopen to the public. (AGI) . .
