(AGI) Milan, Oct 30 - The Bie Day, dedicated to theorganisation that oversees universal exhibitions, wascelebrated at the Expo on Friday. The Bureau International desExpositions (BIE) will leave Milan, where the Expo is in itsclosing stage, and move on soon to Antalya, Astana, and finallyDubai. "I've had the privilege of being an integral part ofExpo Milan 2015's development since its conception, and theevent has given us a great deal of satisfaction," said theBIE's secretary general, Vicente Loscertales. "We are nowlooking forward to the coming Expos in Antalya 2016, Astana2017, and Dubai 2020 with enormous expectation. The BIE willalways do its utmost to ensure that future exhibitions are assuccessful as that in Milan." The ceremony was attended by ExpoCommissioner Giuseppe Sala, who alluded to key moments over theyears building up to the Expo, from preparatory internationalmeetings to the site's construction and six-month roll-out."Expo 2015 has been our home, a small world in Europe'scentre," he said. "Since its inauguration we have welcomed over20 million visitors, over 60 heads of state, 200 ministers, andnumerous officials. The theme selected led to significantthinking about fresh approaches to tackle the challenges offeeding the world. We have seen innovative solutions and soundpractices suggested, as well as start-ups established andimportant projects launched. This is the legacy of which we canbe proudest," he declared. At the end of his speech Sala issueda copy of a Charter Letter of Intent titled "Expos that welcomeeveryone" to the President of the Expo2015 Steering Commitee,Albina Assis Africano. The Charter Letter invites comparisonregarding discrimination of any kind in future universal andinternational exhibitions on the basis of the Expo in Milan.(AGI).
