ITALIAN ALASKA DOCUMENTARY TO BE SCREENED IN WASHINGTON

(VELINO) Roma, 16 Mar - The documentary "Sulle tracce deighiacciai - mission in Alaska" will represent Italy at theinternational Environmental Film Festival in the Nation'sCapital, due to be held in Washington D.C. between Mar. 17 and29. The film will be shown at the Italian Embassy on Mar. 19.The director, Tommaso Valente, will present the film and willreply to questions from the audience. Global warming is meltingour planet's glaciers; shouldn't we be concerned? There is nobetter way to find out more about this than by visiting thecoldest areas on the planet and comparing today's situationwith pictures taken over 100 years ago. This is whatphotographer Fabiano Ventura has been working on for the pastfew years, together with his team of Italian glacier experts.The group, equipped with photo and video cameras, followed thetrail along the major glaciers on the largest mountain ridgesof the Earth. After two expeditions to Karakorum on theCaucasian Mountains, the team has just completed its thirdexpedition in Alaska, confirming that over 90 percent ofglaciers in the area are melting. The film reports on theiradventure and the research work carried out by the group. "Thisdocumentary urges us to reflect on the health of our planet,tackling a complex issue in a fascinating manner," said ItalianAmbassador Claudio Bisogniero. "The issue is in line with thetheme of Expo 2015, the great universal exhibition that willhost over 140 countries in Milan from May to October,discussing food, agriculture, environment and globalsustainable growth," added the Italian Ambassador toWashington. vel.
