(AGI) London, Nov 17 - An exhibit of objects and publicationsabout the Italian language is being shown at the ItalianDepartment of University College in London. Italian seems to beone of the most popular languages for students to learn. Theexhibit, in the heart of London, was visited by the Italianambassador to the UK, Pasquale Terracciano. He recalled "theacknowledgement of Italian institutions to all those who makean effort to disseminate an important part of the world'shistory. All those who choose to study Italian, do so for apurely cultural reason - no one has the ambition for Italian tobecome the the world's second language. Yet, the study of ourlanguage's heritage is essential to the study of a major partof culture." The department, directed by professor CatherineKeen, enrols about 200 students a year. "And, Italians arefew," she said. "We have students coming from the four cornersof the planet, that is China, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, who areattracted by our magnificent language." Samantha, anAnglo-Japanese student from Osaka said: "I came here on my ownto study Italian, leaving my family behind in Japan.
