ANCIENT MOSAICS OF RAVENNA SHOW UNDERWAY IN SKOPJE

(VELINO) Roma, 20 Nov - The Ancient Mosaics of Ravennaexhibition began on Oct. 24 and runs at the ArchaeologicalMuseum of Macedonia in Skopje until Thursday, Jan. 8. Mosaicson show include copies of works from the Mausoleum of GallaPlacidia, the Basilica of San Vitale, the Basilicas ofSant'Apollinare Nuovo and Sant'Apollinare in Classe, theBaptistry of Neon, the Arian Baptistry and the Archbishop'sChapel. The exhibition was organised by the Italian Embassy,the Municipality of Ravenna and the Ministry of Culture of theMacedonian Republic, with the support of the Italian Presidencyof the European Union. The opening was attended by thePresident of the Republic of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov, adelegation from the Municipality of Ravenna led by the head ofthe Environment Department Guido Guerrieri, the Minister forCulture Elisabeta Kanceska-Milevska, the Director of theArchaeological Museum Vesela Chestoeva and the ItalianAmbassador in Skopje Ernesto Massimino Bellelli. The Italianambassador pointed out the Minister of Culture had stressed theexhibition was possible because of strong collaboration betweenthe Macedonian Ministry of Culture and the Italian embassy inSkopje. The exhibition took on a particular significancebecause of the ties between Macedonia and Ravenna and by beingheld in the birthplace of Justinian I. It also provided animportant opportunity to consolidate these ties and build asolid partnership within a European perspective. vel.
