(VELINO) Roma, 9 May - The Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo will host a lecture on the relationship between minorities and government in Italy tomorrow. The lecture, organised in conjunction with the Dante Alighieri Society and the Oslo Committee, will be delivered by Senator Francesco Palermo, director of the Institute for Studies on Federalism and Regionalism, EURAC Research centre and professor of comparative constitutional law at the University of Verona. Italy is one of the European countries that confers most rights to minorities and, at the same time, a Country in which minorities risk not assimilating. This can be explained through the different historical and political reasons linked to each minority group: the lecture will delve into the reasons for the different degree of protection awarded to minorities, also in the light of the international commitments made by Italy in this respect. Focus will also be placed on the treatment given to linguistic minorities as the context from which to understand the diverse aspects of Italian society by juxtaposing the most consolidated applicable provisions and the latest laws on immigration and integration. vel
