(AGI) Accra, June 6 - Italy is to help Ghana during its elections, said Italian Ambassador in Accra, Laura Carpini, at celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the Italian Republic. She said: "Ghana will soon go to the polls and the process will be closely followed beyond its borders. Indeed, Ghanaian democracy, inclusive and diverse, is an example for Africa and a model for the whole region." Italy would continue to focus on bilateral and commercial relations with the country. "We are pursuing relations in all sectors, from energy to infrastructure, to transport. Meridiana will soon begin flights from Milan to Accra," she said. Three agreements have been signed between Italian and Ghanaian universities, and the Invest your Talent in Italy programme offers Ghanaian students masters and postgraduate courses. Italy and Ghana will also co-operate in the fight against terrorism and on immigration and climate change, she said. "We are continuing our engagement with the local authorities to consolidate our ties and improve cooperation structures." A Ghanaian delegation attended the meeting led by Transport Minister Fiifi Kwetey. (AGI).
