(VELINO) Roma, 14 Apr - The president of the Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee, Pier Ferdinando Casini, visited Ecuador for talks to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. During his stay in Quito, Senator Casini had a full schedule of appointments, which included acting as rapporteur at a conference celebrating the 60th anniversary of the European Union, organised by the Pontifical Catholic University. He met local media, which reported extensively on his mission in Ecuador which was supported by the Italian Embassy to Ecuador. Senator Casini was shown the Dante Alighieri Institute in Quito and met the Italian community. Accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Ecuador, Marco Filippo Tornetta, the senator visited the offices of the Fondo Italo Ecuatoriano para el Desarrollo Sostenible (FIEDS), which was set up to manage the conversion of Italy-Ecuador debt. He was briefed by co-directors Carlo Miglioli and Andrea Marin on the fund's activities. He gave his full support, as far as his institutional capacity allows, to the activities of the Italian Cooperation in Ecuador. vel
