Rome - Enel, along with its Enel Green Power Panama subsidiary (EGPPA), kicked off production on the 42 MW Sol Real, its second photovoltaic plant in Panama. A communique released by the company highlighted that with the opening of Sol Real, Enel's installed capacity of renewable sources has risen to 354 MW.
Enel invested approximately 55 million USD in the construction of Sol Real. It is made up of five photovoltaic plants: Caldera Solar (5 MW) and Sol de David (8 MW), located in the province of Chiriqui on the west coast of Panama; and Sol Real (11 MW), Milton Solar (10 MW) and Vista Alegre (8 MW), located in the province of Cocle in the center of the country. With a total capacity of 42 MW, these plants will generate almost 70 GWh of electricity per year, meeting the yearly consumption demand of approximately 33,000 local households and avoids the emission of approximately 60,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The energy generated by the 310,860 photovoltaic modules at Sol Real will be purchased by EGPPA's hydroelectric plant Fortuna. Sol Real will contribute to improve safe energy supply and balance energy market prices in Panama, especially during the dry season. In Panama, Enel's subsidiary, EGPPA, also runs the Fortuna 300MW hydroelectric plant and the 12 MW Chiriqui photovoltaic plant.
