Beirut - Dario Fo's comedic play "Non si paga! Non si paga!" has arrived in Lebanon. The performance, adapted in Arabic, with Lina Abyad's staging, will be performed on 8 April at the AZM Cultural Center - Beit Al Fan in Tripoli.
The initiative has been organised by the Lebanese American University, in cooperation with the Dante Alighieri Society and Tripoli's Azm Cultural Center.
With this effective comedy on social issues, Mr Fo has tackled the very serious conditions which affect a community. In a world which thinks that food and lodging are not a privilege, there are an increasing number of people, all over the planet, who still cannot afford to buy food or have a decent lodging.
Unemployment and low salaries are causing even more people to migrate. This is the background to Antonia's story. She is a woman who leads a revolt at the local supermarket and plunders supplies at a time when inflation had reached a record peak. Antonia and her friend Rita desperately try to hide the goods they 'liberated' from the store and keep them away from their respective husbands and police officers before they can be caught.
