Italy appoints its first woman representative to NATO
(AGI) Rome, Oct 1 - Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairsannounced on Wednesday the appointment of 55-year oldMariangela Zappia as Permanent Representative to the NorthAtlantic Council in Brussels, the first woman to representItaly at NATO. Born in 1959, Ms Zappia graduated in Politicsfrom the University of Florence in 1981 and joined the ForeignService in 1983. She was EU Ambassador to the United Nations inGeneva from 2011 to September 2014. She became MinisterPlenipotentiary in 2010 and worked for the Italianrepresentative office at the UN from 2007. .
