(AGI) - Accra, 27 nov. - A 700 million-dollar Free Port projectis taken off in Ghana. When completed, it will be the thirdport project in the West African country. Officials say, it isexpected to become operational in 2017 and will serve as aregional hub in promoting safe and efficient offshorebusinesses. Frank Hagan-Brown, commercial manager of the AtuoboFree Port Company Limited, told the journalists on thesidelines of building local capacity and linking smallcompanies to the Oil and Gas Industry, organised by PyxeraGlobal Ghana Supply Chain Development Programme. He said the master plan for the project is ready and thestrategic location in West Africa is to advance and offer costeffective facilities comparable to the world's best supplybases. He said the project had also made provision for leasewith a seven- year payment plan to ensure that local businessesown part of the project to give local content, capacitybuilding and local participation a meaning in the oil and gasindustry. The free port according to the commercial managerwould be dedicated to deep water port to grow the oil and gasindustry. Hagan-Brown said the port upon completion would housefacilities such as load out quay connected to fabricationassembly areas, and heavy lift capacity. Others are serviceplot available for tenants and user and a fully accessible andprotected port with deep 16.5 meter access, approach channeland port basin suitable for large heavy lift vessel, barges,rigs and floating production storage and offloading vessel.(AGI).
