U. S.-ITALY RESEARCH WORKGROUP 'MEETS' IN ROME

(VELINO) Roma, 27 Jun - The U.S.-Italy Workgroup on EarthSciences and Natural Resources held a videoconference meeting,with Italian academics and officials hosted at the ItalianForeign Ministry in Rome. Italy's INGV geophysics andvolcanology institute and the United States Geological Surveyalso signed a letter of intent on joint initiatives on seismicand volcanic monitoring and geophysical research. "Theagreement highlights common areas of interest [...] and areasof potential future cooperation," said INGV President StefanoGresta. The U.S.-Italy Workgroup was established as part of abroader science and technology cooperation agreement betweenItaly and the U.S., and focuses on sharing knowledge andacademic transfers. The meeting's 50 delegates included stafffrom Italy's Asi, Cnr, Enea and Ingv. U.S. participantsincluded members of the United States Geological Survey andNASA. vel.
