ITALIAN PHOTOGRAPHER D'AGOSTINO GOES ON DISPLAY IN WASHINGTON

(VELINO) Roma, 26 Sep - Twenty black and white pictures byphotographer Renato D'Agostino are due to go on display at theItalian embassy in Washington from Sept 29 to Dec 18 afterprevious shows at galleries in San Francisco, New York, Milan,Paris, Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul. The photographer and VernaCurtis, curator of the photography section of the Library ofCongress, the largest library in the world, will present theexhibition. The show will be offered in preview on Sept 27 aspart of Washington's "Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC", anall-night event organised in partnership with the embassy andthe Italian Cultural Institute (IIC). D'Agostino is one of themost popular young Italian photographers in the world. Hisexhibition is part of a programme of events that the embassy isoffering around the idea of the journey," said Italianambassador to the U.S. Claudio Bisogniero. D'Agostino hascalled the project "Iter" (Procedure), collecting images fromvarious places around the world, and focusing on cities asplaces from which everyone wants to flee, but which oftenremain attached to them like a shell. He has worked in Tokyo,Shanghai, Venice, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Washington DC andSicily, capturing moments and details that seem timeless andspaceless. D'Agostino is the only one of the younger Italianartists present in the prestigious permanent collections of theLibrary of Congress and the Phillips Collection in Washington.His publications include Etna, Metropolis, Tokyo Untitled andThe Beautiful Cliche, which portrays his hometown of Venice. vel.
