LONDON EMBASSY HOLDS FIFTH LUNCH FOR ITALY EU PRESIDENCY

(VELINO) Roma, 10 Dec - The residence of the Italian diplomaticmission in London organised the fifth in the series of lunchesduring the Italian Semester of the rotating presidency of theEuropean Union. The Italian Ambassador, Pasquale Terracciano,hosted Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander, and PatMcFadden, Shadow Minister for European affairs who participatedin talks with the ambassadors to Britain from EU membercountries. The previous four in the series of workingbreakfasts and lunches had as guests of honour, Secretary ofState for Scotland, Alistair Carmichael, Deputy Prime Minister,Nick Clegg, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England forFinancial Stability Sir john Cunliffe (CB), and DefenceSecretary Philip Hammond. The Italian semester in the EUpresidency was launched in London on July 3, during a concertorganised by Ambassador Terracciano at the church of St. Johnin Smith Square, Westminster, the political heart of the UnitedKingdom and the headquarters of the EU representative officesin London. During the semester, the Italian Embassy has alsoorganised other events with distinguished representatives ofvarious sectors, with the aim of focusing on issues to promotea stronger partnership with London, in the light of the strongcoincidence of views with the Italian Presidency. The Italiandiplomatic mission organised themed conferences focusing onalternative funding for SMEs, non-tariff barriers, and theTransatlantic Partnership for Trade and Investment, which isbeing negotiated between the EU and the U.S. vel.
