The initiative was promoted within the framework of acycle of events sponsored by the Italian government in view ofthe Universal Exposition, which will be hosted in Milan fromMay to October 2015. Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano opened theLondon event with a welcome address. This was followed bypresentations by the participating Italian regions ofBasilicata, Campania, Emilia Romagna and Tuscany. Theinitiative aimed to highlight the country's points ofexcellence at international level and to trigger developmentprocesses. During the presentations, the Regional authoritiesillustrated their accompanying programmes and initiatives withthe help of a team of professionals in the tourism andagro-food sectors. The meeting, moderated by Leonardo SimonelliSanti, the president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, wasalso an important networking opportunity in which Britishbusinessmen had the chance to meet representatives of theRegional Authorities in bilateral meetings. The project iscoordinated by the Italian Presidency of the Council ofMinisters, with the assistance of the Department for EconomicDevelopment and Cohesion and the operational support ofInvitalia, the National Agency for Inward Investment Promotionand Enterprise Development.
