(VELINO) Roma, 18 Sep - The Colour of Africa, an exhibition byItalian artist and designer Margherita Maresca, is due to openon Friday, Sept 19 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague.The Venetian has lived in Kenya for eight years and beenenchanted by Africa for even longer. The exhibition will offeran opportunity to promote Africa through Italian creativity andto stimulate tourism and trade exchanges between Central andEastern Europe and the African continent. "The fabric for myworks is chosen and purchased by me from the entire Africancontinent, medinas and nomadic settlements included. To be madeeven stronger and tougher it is then treated with a techniquebased on acrylic colours and water, gold, copper, bronze, andsilver dust, and above all with natural pigments that I gatherin tiny amounts during my tours of Africa. Everything is thenmixed with the powdered oxides and acrylics," the artistexplained. Part of the proceeds from the sale of thesepaintings will be reinvested in charitable activities such asthe distribution of medicines to indigenous peoples, assistanceto the elderly and children, instruction in manual jobs tolocal workers, and support to students by means of trainingcourses and cultural activities. vel.
