(AGI) Vatican City, Oct 30 - Visitors to the Holy See'spavilion at Milan Expo donated 150,000 euros for the Pope'shumanitarian causes. Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, who chairs thePontifical Council for Culture and is the Vatican'scommissioner for its pavilion, said the results were "highlypositive". He told inBlu Radio, the Episcopal Conference'sstation: "Through their small and simple donations, visitorsoffered 150,000 euros so that the Pope may support the refugeecommunities in Jordan. For this reason, we believe our pavilionserved an almost pastoral purpose as well. Through thispavilion, the Holy See aimed to explore two dimensions: on theone hand we have bread, one of the great symbols of universalnutrition; its absence at our tables, world hunger, was thefirst theme. On the other hand we wanted to evoke the phrase 'aman does not live by bread only', recalling food's morespiritual and cultural dimension. This is why many affirmedthat the Holy See's pavilion was perhaps the one that wanted totackle the topic more than all the others." (AGI).
