(VELINO) Roma, 4 Jul - The exhibition "Sensualidad y Belleza: Antonio Canova e Mimmo Jodice" will be held in Mexico City's San Carlos national museum from July 6 to October 2. The exhibition, organised with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in the Mexican capital, is designed to present the great neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova (born in Possagno in 1757, died in Venice in 1822) through his graphical works: precious drawings of the female figure, male nudes, and studies of compositions that show the conceptual phase of his sculptures. The fame that Canova acquired over the centuries is represented by prints from the 1800s portraying his most significant and famous pieces. The exhibition will also explore whether the relationship between Jodice and Canova was one of contrast or dialogue: the artistic genius who lived between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century juxtaposed to the photographer famous on both the Italian and international scene. Mythological figures - Venus, Cupid, and Psiche, Hebe and Calliope - but also historical figures like Napoleon are immortalised by both Antonio Canova's chisel and Mimmo Jodice's lens. Jodice will present his personally curated selection of photographs from his campaign on Canova's works displayed in major museums throughout the world. He interprets Canova's sculptural forms, lights, shadows and poetry in an extraordinarily contemporary interpretation. Surprising takes, unexpected glimpses, and disclosed details bring the sculptor's trademark elegance back date and to the public's attention. Through the lens of his camera, Jodice explores the sculptures of one of the greatest artists of all time through an exceptional critical interpretation of the lighting and shading of his forms. The exhibition is part of the Year of Italy in Latin America project, an initiative promoted by the Italian Foreign Ministry in association with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency (IC), the Conference of Italian University Rectors, and with the contribution of numerous businesses. vel
