Rome - The National Energy Strategy (NES) should be developed "in relation with European and Mediterraenan policies" rather than being focused only on Italy. In his speech to the Union for the Mediterranean's Ministerial Conference on Energy, which was hosted at the Farnesina, the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, said that "Italy is making a deep-reaching effort to rebuild its National Energy Strategy (NES) in the light of challenges such as security of supply, emission reduction, and the stability of power grids." The minister also pointed out that the Plan "is expected to be presented at the beginning of April concurrently with the G7 energy meeting, which will be hosted by Italy." Mr Calenda said: "A plurality of supply sources can better guarantee energy security. We should be open to all energy projects and initiatives. Energy should become an even stronger factor of interconnection." With this in view, we need a "a single energy connectivity market, a Mediterranean energy hub," he concluded.
