(AGI) Milan, June 17 - A consortium led by Salini Impregilo has won a contract in Kuwait worth 955 million dollars. Kuwait's Public Authority for Housing Welfare awarded the construction of primary infrastructure works for the creation of a new residential area that will rise 40 km from Kuwait City, to the Italian construction group. The work is part of the South Al Mutlaa Housing Project. Once completed, the new city will house 400,000 inhabitants, who will have the most modern services, shopping centres, hospitals, schools and social service centres at their disposal. The consortium in which Salini Impregilo holds a 55 percent stake will build 150 kilometres of roads, lighting networks, a drinking water distribution network, rainwater collection and sewage systems, a high-voltage power grid, telecommunications networks and traffic control systems. The Kuwaiti parliament approved the 2015-2020 development plan, which provides for the investment of over 100 billion dollars in infrastructure projects across the country, including the construction of thousands of new housing units, a railway and metro network and new refineries and industrial plants.
