(AGI) Cagliari, April 3 - Sardinian capital Cagliari has openedSettimo, Italy's first tram-train line, which allows passengersto cover 4.25km in about six minutes. It uses a combination oftrams and railway coaches. The line connecting Settimo SanPietro to Monserrato (San Gottardo) was opened on Fridaymorning by the President of the Sardinian Region, FrancescoPigliaru and the regional councillor for transport, MassimoDeiana. Mr Pigliaru said: "When you spend taxpayers' money, thefirst thing to do is to spend it well: today we can say thatthese three million euros have been well spent." The SardinianRegion is to also find finance to connect metropolitan areaslike Dolianova, Serdiana and Soleminis, and to offer moresurface connections between stations, especially between Sinnaiand the Settimo San Pietro station.
