Aftereliminating Andrea Petkovic, she then took on another Germanplayer, Julia Goerges. Although Georges is more physicallypowerful, stronger and 20 cm taller, Errani still beat her 6-26-2 in one hour and 10 minutes. Errani studies her matchesat the drawing board and diligently puts into play the strategyshe has developed with her coach, Pablo Lozano. Against JuliaGoerges, who has a very powerful stroke but is a bit slow onher feet, she employed the right strategy, playing a quicklychanging game, obliging her adversary to reach the ball shortof breath. She thus obtained 45 gratuitous errors by the Germanplayer, which paved the way to her victory. On Wednesday in thequarterfinals, 'Sarita' will play against Serena Williams (a1-6 7-5 6-3 winner in her match against fellow American SloaneStephens): the world's number one ranked player is ahead 8-0 inher career against Errani and has only conceded two sets to theItalian, one of which in the last match in Brindisi, during theWorld Group Italy-United States playoffs for the Fed Cup. The 33-year-old Brindisi-born player, seedednumber 28, lost 6-3 6-4 in one hour and 27 minutes to Spain'sGarbine Muguruza, seeded number 21. In the first match on the"Suzanne Lenglen" court, Pennetta made a lot of mistakes: shestarted the first set better than her rival but coughed up theadvantage and watched the Spaniard quickly catch up thanks toher very fast ground strokes. The Italian started on the rightfooting also in the second set and even won the the first threegames. From that moment on, however, she failed to control thespeed of the Spanish player, who is 183 cm tall and alsoeffective at the net. Pennetta lost five games in a row andultimately the match. Muguruza had 30 winning balls andPennetta only 13. The only solace was that she lost to anexcellent player: the Venezuelan-born young Spanish player issurely headed to the world's top 10 list.
