F1: Alonso leaves Ferrari after 'difficult decision'

(AGI) Modena, Nov 20 - Racing driver Fernando Alonso said:"Today is not an easy one for me", after Ferrari revealed hewould be leaving the team after Sunday's end of season race inAbu Dhabi. "Even if I always look to the future with greatenthusiasm and determination, at the end of this season myjourney as a Ferrari driver will come to an end. It was adifficult decision to take, but a carefully considered one, andfrom start to finish, my love for Ferrari was a primeconsideration. I have always been lucky enough to make my owndecisions about my future and I have that possibility now too.I must thank the team for that, as it understood my position. Ileave Scuderia Ferrari after five years, during which I reachedmy very best level professionally, tackling major challengesthat pushed me to find new limits. I also proved to be a trueteam-player, putting the interests of the Scuderia before myown. When I had to take important decisions about my future, Idid so with Ferrari in my heart, driven by my love for theteam. I am very proud of what we have achieved together. Thanksto the efforts of the men and women of Maranello, on threeoccasions we came second in the Formula One world championship,two of them fighting for the title right up to and includingthe final race, running in a championship winning position formany laps. Without a shadow of a doubt, these five yearsproduced some of the best moments of my career. I also feelthat, in leaving the team, it is family rather than friends Iam leaving behind. Now I look to the future with greatenthusiasm, knowing that part of my heart will always belong tothe Prancing Horse [Ferrari's symbol].
