TIRANA SHOWS ITALIAN ARCHITECTURE IN ALBANIA 1925-2014

(VELINO) Roma, 12 Dec - n exhibition has opened in Tirana,displaying Italian architecture in Albania from 1925 to 2014 ina show entitled "On the tracks of Italy in Albania", organisedby the Italian Embassy and the Italian Culture Institute (IIC)in Tirana, under the Italian presidency of the European UnionCouncil. The aim of the event is to highlight the contributionto the Balkan country of architects like Armando Brasini,Florestano Di Fausto, Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo and GherardoBosio in the period between 1925 and 1943. The project featuresa scientific conference, a series of exhibitions displayed inthe buildings that they designed, a video by film directorRoland Sejko with archive material from the Istituto Luce andthe Archivio Centrale Statale del Film and, lastly, anItalian-Albanian bilingual pocket-size guide on theItalian-designed buildings that make up Tirana's monumentalaxis. The initiative extends to contemporary Italianarchitecture, thus offering an opportunity to present thedesign projects for several Albanian cities produced by some ofItaly's most renowned architectural firms, who will participatein the conference and display their works at one of theexhibition venues. The event was inaugurated on Dec.12 at theNational Theatre and, after the welcome greetings of localauthorities and the presentation of the project, there was ashowing of Sejko's video. The conference was held in theauditorium of the Tirana Polytechnic and was attended byrepresentatives of the Universities of Bari, Florence, Milan,Rome's La Sapienza, Tirana and Turin. The afternoon programmefeatured the presentation of recent projects for severalAlbanian cities by the architectural firms Architettura Arx,Atena Studio, Mario Cucinella, Studio Scardaccione and FilippoTaidelli. Several more exhibitions set up in venues along theTirana Boulevard will be inaugurated on Saturday, starting fromthe Council of Ministers' building and then moving on to theTirana Polytechnic, the Rectorate, the Department ofArchaeology and the University of Fine Arts. vel.
