(AGI) La Valletta, Mar 27 - A series of events to promote theItalian language, food and wine were held in Valletta, Malta'scapital. The Italian Cultural Institute hosted the presentationof the book "Pietro Parisi. A peasant cook. Aspects of hisland", with the author, Italian ambassador, Giovanni Umberto DeVito, Ambassador Luca Del Balzo di Presenzano and Director ofthe Institute, Salvatore Schirmo and representatives of localsociety and the media. After working in France,Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates, Pietro Parisireturned to Palma Campania, and in 2005 began hisrestaurant-workshop Era Ora. The presentation, organised withthe Italian Academy of Cuisine as part of the programme of theItalian Cultural Institute in Valletta to promote Milan Expo,was followed by tasting a Parisi specialty, the "parmigianina"of steamed aubergine and Maltese dishes inspired by the historyof Italian gastronomy. This was followed by a daydedicated to promoting the Italian language at the Universityof Malta, with the help of the Cultural Institute and thedepartments of Italian, Translation and Interpreting. In themorning there was a meeting on "The Italian language on theborder. Italian, bridge between cultures in the Mediterranean",with Loredana Cornero, general secretary of the Community ofRadio and Television broadcasting in Italian, and in theafternoon by the conference "The translation of Franco Fortini:service, vocation, ecstasy. ("Please, not too much genius.")",by Marina Morbiducci, Professor of Humanities at La SapienzaUniversity of Rome. (AGI) . .
