(VELINO) Roma, 29 Sep - The European Day of Languages was heldat the State Hermitage Museum in Glavny Stab, St. Petersburg.It was organised by the EU Delegation to Russia in partnershipwith the museum and the institutes and cultural centres of thecity. Italy, the Netherlands, Cyprus, France, Portugal,Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Sweden, Estonia, Czech Republic,Finland and Denmark all took part. Each country presented theirown educational and cultural activities, as well as organisingopen language classes, book signings, lectures on popularculture and film documentaries. It was also an opportunity todiscuss "Living in the digital age", a project of the EUdelegation with Russian universities, attended by Russian andEuropean scholars. The Italian Cultural Institute in St.Petersburg set up an information stand at the Hermitage on itsactivities and courses. The institute also organised a lectureon the history of Italian literature by teachers of the ItalianLanguage and Culture Centre, Roberta Pittaluga and AnnaKarlova, a professor at the St. Petersburg State University; aseminar on the life and works of Dante Alighieri on the 750thanniversary of his birth (the speaker was Professor MarinaSamarina, professor of the State University of St. Petersburg);and Alessio Banzato and Federico Fara, teachers at the ItalianLanguage and Culture Centre, gave lectures respectivelyon theItalian language and pop music and Italian for beginners.Enrolment procedures for Italian universities were alsoexplained. vel.
