Second Workshop Eurasia to open in Rome

(AGI) Rome, June 19 - A two-day meeting on Asia and ways ofcollaborating with the continent is to be held for the secondyear in Rome. The goal of Workshop Eurasia, organised by theItalian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with AGI news agency,Unindustria Lazio and Terzo Pilastro Foundation, is to studyinstitutional policies and business strategies to createpartnerships with traders in Asia, taking into account newsocial and economic trends and challenges posed by growingurbanisation. The starting point is information on theAsian market, including: an expected increase of more than 7percent in Italian exports between 2015-18; the rise in Chinaof consumers looking for Italian products as a guarantee ofquality; the removal of customs for Association of South-EastAsian Nations (ASEAN) at the end of this year (a single marketwith 600 million consumers and GDP of more than 2,300 billiondollars); the largest infrastructure plan that is beinglaunched in China and the ASEAN countries (funded bymultilateral organisations to which Italy adheres as well, suchas the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the AsianDevelopment Bank and the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund). Meetingsar the conference are designed to strengthen cooperationbetween Italy and the countries of the Far East, concentratingon the economic growth of the Asian countries, theopportunities for the Italian food industry, ways to persuadeinvestment in Italy, the opening of the Asian infrastructuremarket and the development of partnerships with permanentinternational networks, regions and major urban areas such asTianjin and Chongqing. The forum will be held next week onMonday June 22 and Tuesday 23 at the Chamber of Commerce inRome. It will be opened by Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs,Benedetto della Vedova and closed by the Italian consul inChongqing, Sergio Maffettone. Three sessions will be held.Speakers included Mme Yu Lu, vice president of the ChineseAgribusiness Chamber; Zhu Zhenmin, Managing Director ofGenertech (Chinese state agency), who will indicate strategiesto follow to attract capital from China; Saby Mitra, chiefeconomist of the Asian Development Bank, who will present theplan of infrastructure financed by the ADB and ways toparticipate in international competitions; and Li Guotian,director of the Agency for Foreign Trade of Chongqing (withmore than 30 million inhabitants and the logistics hub ofmainland China), who will take part in the workshop to set upstable trading connections.
