(VELINO) Roma, 27 Mar - "Italian companies in ASEAN countries"is the title of a conference to be held in Rome on May 19,organised by Osservatorio Asia. The event, which will presentthe research report of the same name, will be an opportunity tostart a high-level dialogue to discuss the role of Italiancompanies in trade with the countries of Southeast Asia, aswell as the commercial and investment opportunities that couldresult from a strengthening of economic ties. The workshop willbe attended by Deputy Minister of Economic Development (MISE),Carlo Calenda, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs andInternational Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, former PrimeMinister and General Secretary of the Agency for Research andLegislation (AREL) Enrico Letta, Secretary General of ASEAN, LeLuong Minh, and representatives of the Italian businesscommunity and Asian banks and financial institutions. Thisissue is a priority for Italy, explained Prime Minister MatteoRenzi during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Milan on Oct. 16and 17 2014. On this occasion, the prime minister said: "Theonly solution to exit from the standstill afflicting thecommunity is to improve collaboration between countries. Amessage of cooperation and dialogue has emerged from thesummit." The Asia-Europe Meeting is an inter-regional forum,composed of the European Commission, the 28 members of the EUand the 13 members of the Association of South-East AsianNations (ASEAN). Founded in 1996 to strengthen political,economic and cultural cooperation between the two continents,the Euro-Asian summit is held every two years alternately inAsia and Europe.
