Over 50 ministers attending Expo's forum on agriculture

(AGI) Rho (Milan), June 3 - Over 50 ministers of agricultureand 370 delegates from 115 countries and internationalorganisations have arrived in Milan for Thursday'sInternational Forum on Agriculture at the Expo. The event istitled "From EXPO 2015 and Beyond: Agriculture to Feed thePlanet," and will have various speakers, including: theDirector-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO), Jose' Graziano da Silva; the European Commissioner forAgriculture, Phil Hogan; and former Brazilian president andPresident of the Lula Institute, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.Lula will illustrate the means through which thousands ofBrazilians have managed to feed themselves and escape thelowest level of poverty. "It will be one of the most importantmoments of dialogue on the Expo's key topics," Italy's Ministerfor Agriculture, Maurizio Martina, said on Wednesday. "We willcompare ideas with the entire world, especially to share newefforts in the fight against hunger and climate change, anddiscuss new actions to reduce wastefulness and better supportsmall farmers, who are the backbone of agricultural systemseverywhere. We're honoured that Italy can host this great eventat the Expo preceding the FAO assembly, the G7 and G20 summits,and in view of the next Millenium Goals to be defined by the UNin September," he said. The Charter of Milan, which willdocument and preserve the spirit and achievements of the Expo,will also be presented during the Forum. (AGI) . .
