(AGI) Accra, Oct 5 - Ghana's health care system has been throwninto chaos by a strike by 7,000 nurses. They claim they areowed three years pay. The protest involves all the country'spublic hospitals and may last indefinitely. In Augustdoctors went on strike after the government and trade unionsfailed to reach a sector-specific labour agreement. More than500 people died during the three-week action. The figure doesnot include rural areas where it is more difficult to collectinformation. The World Health Organisation said that the ratioof doctors per head of population is very low and even lower inthe countryside. The country also lacks general healthfacilities and prescription drugs. (AGI) . .
