The picture of Italian culture inAfrica was painted by the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs,Mario Giro, during the "Africa and Italy: From Culture toEthnology" conference held in Rome's Villa Madama with theparticipation of Senegalese President Macki Sall. Giroexpressed his wish to "see the number of Italian languagestudents grow" in Sub-Saharan Africa, where there are only13,000 compared to 150,000 in the Maghreb.
