ITALY LAUNCHES PROJECT SUPPORTING EL SALVADOR HERITAGE

(VELINO) Roma, 17 Jun - An Italian initiative endorsing ElSalvador's cultural heritage was inaugurated by Italy'sambassador to the Latin American nation,Tosca Barucco, onWednesday. The project was financed by the Italian foreignministry's Directorate General for Development Cooperation(DGCS) and planned by Rome's Tre University. It aims to supportEl Salvador's Secretaria de Cultura and socio-economicdevelopment by training young people for professions in thefields of historical architecture and dwindling forms of localartisanal crafts, with the ultimate goal of steering them awayfrom organised crime. This is part of the wider program of theItalian Year in Latin America. Participating in theinauguration were the secretary of culture of El Salvador'spresidential office, Ramon D. Rivas, El Salvador's deputyforeign minister, Jaime Miranda, the deans of Roma TreUniversity and the Universidad de El Salvador, Mario Painzzaand Mario Roberto Nieto Lovo, and the mayors of Izalco,Zacatecoluca, and Santa Ana, where the project will run from2015 to 2017. All expressed their gratitude for Italy'sconstant efforts in El Salvador, helping build on the nation'sheritage and identity. Bettering technical competence incultural and artisanal areas is a catalyst for the creation ofcooperative companies and jobs, favouring economic growth andsocial development. vel.
