(VELINO) Roma, 24 Sep - Relations between Italy and Brazil arethe focus of a conference to be held on Oct. 2 at the ModernLiterature Department of the University of Sao Paulo (USP).Professors Cecilia Casini and Ivan Marques are coordinating theevent in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC).The conference aims to present a general overview of thehistory of cultural relations between the two countries,especially as concerns literary studies. The proceedings willopen with a debate between professors Ettore Finazzi Agro(professor of Portuguese and Brazilian Literature at theDepartment of European, American, and Intercultural Studies ofthe Faculty of Humanities of "La Sapienza" University in Rome)and Alfredo Bosi (Professor of Brazilian Literature at USP,historian, literary critic and member of the AcademiaBrasileira de Letras), who will compare their teachingexperiences. This will be followed by a round table with theparticipation of researchers working on a variety of topics inthe field of Italo-Brazilian cultural studies. The conferenceis one of the initiatives for the Year of Italy in LatinAmerica, which is sponsored by the Foreign Ministry and willconclude in conjunction with the Olympic Games in Rio deJaneiro. vel.
