ITALIAN UNITY CELEBRATIONS MARKED WITH CONCERT IN PANAMA

(VELINO) Roma, 19 Mar - The Italian embassy in Panama and theItalian Cultural Institute celebrated the 154th anniversary ofthe Unification of Italy with a concert. The initiative, whichwas a great success, was held at the parliament building. Theoccasion saw the first performance of the Italo-Panamanianorchestra, established in the framework of the culturalagreement between the two countries and that includes studentsof the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome and talented youngPanamanians conducted by Italy's Elio Orciuolo and Panama'sDino Nugent. Panamanian soprano Libia Montano and PatriciaVleig were among the performers, along with Mexican soprano (aSanta Cecilia student) Jessica Loaiza, Italian tenor MatteoCastrignano, student of the Italian Conservatory, and thewell-known Panamanian baritone Ricardo Velazquez. The event wasattended by President of Parliament, Elias Castillo; VicePresident of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, Presidentof the European component of EuroLat, Ramon Jauregui Atondo,European and Latin American parliamentarians, the Panamanianauthorities, members of the international diplomatic corps andmany Italians. The Italian-Panamanian Youth Orchestra is theresult of a consolidated official partnership between the twocountries with the aim of strengthening the traditionalbilateral relations of friendship and cultural cooperation,especially in 2015 the "Year of ' Italy in Latin America".Moreover, thanks to several donations collected from Italianand Panamanian companies in the country, it was possible toraise funds for social activities by the foundation ofPanamanian painter Olga Sinclair to contribute to a trip toItaly for 10 young people, winners of the "Paint the yourfamily in the style of Modigliani" competition, who will findout more about Italian art and painting from close up togetherwith Italian students. vel.
