(AGI) Ottawa, Oct 7 - Italian opera was performed in Ottawa aspart of the 15th Week of Italian Language in the World. Thetheme this year was "Italian in music and music in Italian"."The Barber of Seville" was performed by the "Opera Lyra",singers at Ottawa's National Arts Centre, conducted by GiuseppePetraroia, under the direction of Dennis Garnhum. Guest starsincluded baritone Joshua Hopkins, mezzo-soprano Marion Newman,tenor Isaiah Bell, baritone Peter McGillivray, bass-baritoneGiles Thomas and young violinist Kerson Leong. The NationalArts Centre opened the season of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestrawith the "Carnevale Romabo" concert, conducted by Maestro DavidCurrie. It included pieces by Hector Berlioz (Carnevale RomanoOverture), John Corigliano (Ciaccona for violin and orchestra)and Ottorino Respighi (Fountains and Pines of Rome). Areception was held by the Italian Embassy with the OttawaSymphony Orchestra, to promote Italian entrepreneurship. (AGI). .
