(AGI) Maputo, June 15 - Italian Culture Week has begun inMaputo, the capital of Mozambique. The programme, which runsuntil June 20, includes a piano concert by the DuoKeira at the"Teatro Avenida" called "Obsession - The Ecstasy Dance", withpianists Michela Chiara Borghese and Sabrina De Carlo. Therewill also be music by Aleksandr Porfirevic Borodin, MauriceRavel, Samuel Barber and Alfredo Casella. The second event willbe "8 1/2 - Festa do cinema italiano", a festival showing sixfilms by directors such as Ettore Scola, Paolo Virzi', CarloMazzacurati and Rocco Papaleo. It will include specialprojections and entertainment for children. Roberto Velano,Italian Ambassador in Mozambique, told the daily "Domingo":"The films are the fruit of Italy's best contemporarycinematography and we expect the public in Maputo to greet themwith satisfaction." Relations between Italy and Mozambique dateback to the time of the country's fight for independence fromPortugal. Italy also played a key role in the negotiations thatled to the end of a 16 year civil war, with the signing of apeace treaty between the government and Renamo rebels in Romein 1992. (AGI). .
