(AGI) Milan, Nov 18 - Emirates believes in the potential ofMilan's Malpensa Airport, said the managing director of theDubai-based international airline in Italy, Fabio MariaLazzerini. At the presentation of a technical and commercialagreement closed by Emirates and Italian train operatorTrenitalia, Lazzerini explained: "Malpensa is our airport inItaly and we have a very good relation with SEA, the companythat manages the airports of Milan. We operate three flightsper week from Milan to Dubai, three from Rome to Dubai and onefrom Venice. We also have flights between Malpensa and NewYork, for a total of 56 flights per week." The head of EmiratesItaly pointed out that Italy is the third-largest marketglobally for the United Arab Emirates and that trade betweenthe two countries is worth six billion dollars per year. Hecontinued that flights between Malpensa and New York will beoperated by Airbus A380s as of Dec. 1, allowing for an increaseof 3,000 passengers per week. Lazzerini also pointed out thatEmirates has made large investments in the airport of Milan,mentioning the 2.8 million euros allocated to open a new loungeat Malpensa. He also suggested that more A380s could be usedsoon by the airline at Malpensa: "We currently have 54 AirbusA380s, 45 percent of the global fleet. We have ordered another86 and some of these could be used for flights to and fromMalpensa." . .
