The meeting was opened by Italianmilitary attache', General Giovanni Fantauzzi, who alsomoderated the interventions of two representatives of the U.S.Defense Department, Air Force colonels Matthew E. Zuber andScott T. Wallace, respectively staff member of the office ofthe Secretary of Defense and Director of the ComparativeTechnology Office at the Pentagon. The two officers stressedthat Italy is one of the most important partners of the UnitedStates and that both countries are in the front line of majorinternational operations. It is thus essential to haveequipment that facilitates full interoperability between thetwo armed forces.
