(VELINO) Roma, 23 Sep - taly was the focus of a NATO Daysevent, held from Sept. 18 to 20 at Ostrava in the CzechRepublic. Record number of visitors attended the biggestsecurity show in Europe this year, which was visited by 250,000people at Mosnov's Leos Janacek airport. There was a display bythe 15th Regiment of the Italian Military Air Force, featuringthe Augusta AW 139 (HH 139 A), one of the most highly valuedair rescue helicopters. Talks were held between members ofinternational groups and political, commercial, academic andcultural representatives. Italian Ambassador in Prague AldoAmati told PEI News: "It was an excellent opportunity forbusiness representatives to discuss the features of the HH139at international level and to enable all sides to examine andtry them out." Czech deputy defence ministers, Daniel Kostoval(in charge of military acquisition) and Tomas Kuchta (chief ofindustrial cooperation) boarded an HH139 with Mr Amati and acompany representative for a demonstration flight. It showedwhat it could do with a series of manoeuvres. The CzechRepublic was interested in buying 12 multi-purpose helicoptersto replace its ageing fleet of Mi-24s, Mi-8s and Mi-17s. Thecountry has also asked for information on what is availablefrom companies in the U.S., France and Italy. They have untilSept. 31 to respond. (AGI) vel.
