(AGI) Budapest, March 11 - The Italian Culture Institute inBudapest commemorated the 100th anniversary of Word War One onWednesday with an event called "The Collective Memory of theWar: Museums and Monuments". It was attended by AlessandraMartina, curator of the Museum of the Great War of Gorizia, andAndras Gero, director of the Institute of the House ofHapsburg, who helped organise the event. The commemoration didnot only focus on the massacre of millions of people during thewar, but also offered an opportunity in which to confront thepresent. The organisers said the history of mankind does notonly lie in texts but also in contexts: physical places, findings, works and objects that comprise the ineradicablerecord of great events in time and space. Tangible memories ofthe Great War reveal the interweaving of forms and effects onsome Central European countries which can still be seen, developments and milestones, evidence and mementos that relateto the events and constitute an irreplaceable interpretation ofthe historical events of our time.
