(AGI) Vatican City, Oct 5 - Pope Francis opened the Synod onthe Family Monday morning at 9 o'clock on the dot, with 270bishops convening in the Vatican from all over the world, inaddition to approximately 90 experts, auditors and delegatesrepresenting other Christian churches. "I should mention thatthe Synod is neither a convention, nor a parlor, nor aparliament or senate, where people make deals and reachcompromises. The Synod is rather an Ecclesial expression, i.e.,the Church that journeys together to read reality with theeyes of faith and with the heart of God; it is the Church thatinterrogates herself with regard to her fidelity to the depositof faith, which does not represent for the Church a museum toview," the Pope said in a brief opening address to the firstgeneral congregation of the Synod on the Family. He went on toexplain: "The Synod, as we know, is a journey undertakentogether in the spirit of collegiality and synodality, on whichparticipants bravely adopt parrhesia, pastoral zeal anddoctrinal wisdom, frankness, and always keep before our eyesthe good of the Church, of families and the suprema lex, theSalus animarum.". .
